John James Audubon State Park

John James Audubon State Park is located on U. S. Highway 41 in Henderson, Kentucky, just south of the Ohio River. Its inspiration is John James Audubon, the ornithologist, naturalist and painter who resided in Henderson from 1810 to 1819 when Henderson was a frontier village.

Description

Audubon Park consists of approximately 700 acres (2.8 km²), primarily hilly forests that include 338-acre (1.4 km²) dedicated by the Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission with old-growth trees and trails.
Highlights include the internationally acclaimed Audubon Museum that features numerous valuable examples of Audubon art as well as a gift shop and nature center; a nine-hole golf course; six cottages; a 69-acre (280,000 m²) campground that can accommodate tents and campers; a 28-acre (110,000 m²) manmade fishing lake with rental pedal boats; 6.5 miles (10.5 km) of forest hiking trails; tennis courts; four picnic shelters; and playground.
A variety of year-round, interpretive programs are conducted under the direction of a full-time naturalist and museum educator. Programs focus on art history, as well as native plants, animals, conservation and recycling.
Audubon Park receives local support from a not-for-profit organization, the Friends of Audubon

Shelter Rental

Four picnic shelters (one with restrooms), offer tables, grills and a playground for the perfect family outing. Shelters may be reserved up to one year in advance.

Grounds and Cottages: Open all year.
Campground: Open March 12 to November 30.
Museum/Giftshop: March - December, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Daily
January & February, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Thursday - Sunday

Closed on New Years Eve and New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Holiday, Thanksgiving Day, and a week starting the day before Christmas Eve.
Meeting Facility: Available for rental
